Intro

Pagan religions and spiritualities have been experiencing a modern resurgence well over the last century. Yet there is still so much misunderstanding and misinformation that is circulated both within and outside of our communities, especially now with the advanced level of global communications that we have. One of the goals of Semi-Rural Pagan is to provide a solid foundation for understanding where the modern pagan movement has come from, and equip you with tools and resources to explore and develop within your own spirituality, while also being cognizant of the cultural influences and potentially closed practices that have been misappropriated.

Paganism in the modern understanding is an umbrella for a number of spiritualities, beliefs, and religions that share some overlapping core values. Oftentimes this includes an acknowledgment of the sanctity of the natural world, an acceptance of the existence of spiritual or energetic entities, and distinct cosmology of an interconnected existence. It is a form of natural religion (not to be exclusively correlated with nature religions), and often features a component of animism, polytheism, and/or omnism.

Semi-Rural Pagan is centered primarily on what I call American Gaelic Polytheism, which is simply my interpretation, as an American, of modern polytheistic practices from historically Goidelic/Gaelic speaking cultures and countries (Ireland, Scotland, and Isle of Man). Since these cultures are still alive, I want to be very clear that what I practice is inspired and based on folklore and customs of these cultures but should not be considered representative of the current culture as I am neither indigenous to or living is these countries.

While my beliefs and practices are heavily leaning towards similar Gaelic customs, I do have other practices that are not historically part of those cultures or are focused on modern needs, like rune reading. With my coaching and mentorship services, I work with folks on deconstructing their views towards religion and spirituality, shadowwork and lightwork, and assisting with exploring spiritual growth.

I have always been driven to help people and support them in actualizing their goals and dreams, which led me to pursuing and earning a bachelor’s degree in human development. My professional background is in social services, and I’ve held a number of roles with case management, skills coaching, and program development and facilitation. Reenvisioning those frameworks through a pagan and spiritualist viewpoint to support people with those beliefs to develop deeply within their practices has been something I’ve been working towards for a number of years and I’m excited to finally be able to offer that to you all.
